Back Soapstone - Brazil

Grey Soapstone

Grey Soapstone is a unique stone from Brazil. Its neutral shades of greys are contrasted with white veins for a classic look that will age with grace. For centuries, Soapstone has been used as cooking surface.

Heat resistant, Grey Soapstone allows you to place hot objects without risks of damaging the surface. As it is mostly made of talc, acids in foods will not decolour or etch the surface. Grey Soapstone is more sensitive to scratches, we recommend using cutting boards.

Because of its density, the Grey Soapstone is non porous, naturally antibacterial and stain resistant. As it exits the quarry, a wax is applied to the slab to enhance the colours. An oil or wax can then be used every 4 to 6 months or as required to maintain the colour, but it is not essential.
